What y’all know about 55DSL? I’m suspecting not much, you may have a picked up a couple of their clothes through the years but I’m suspecting that they’re not front of mind. But if you’re anything like us you love a good documentary. If you’re curious to learn more and discover what 55DSL is all about, then they’ve got a video just for you.
Like us you’ll be surprised to know that 55DSL is twenty years old! It was spun out as an experimental street-wear division out of Diesel; giving young artists a platform for their work. They have an inordinate number of collaborations under their belt and this documentary gives light to some of the best-known and most creative. One of their best stories, is about how one of their best-known collaboration range of shirts by came about with photographer Gavin Watson. In twenty years they’ve made pretty much made everything, even short films!
It’s also an insightful look at the people behind the brand and the collaborative spirit of Andrea Rosso (the head of 55DSL). Rosso is also the son Diesel’s founder, but he’s the one who has led 55DSL to where it is today. By fusing his love for skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding the label now has a heritage in alternative/extreme sports. It’s this which is what sets it apart from it’s bigger brother of a brand.
