We are always on the hype for any support for youngsters looking to get their first step on the career ladder. Good news for anyone out there looking to jump into the big wide world of work, O2 have launched GoThinkBig.
We can speak from personal experience that finding your feet when it comes to jobs, let alone finding one you will love is tricky to say the least! When I was at college I thought I could do one of a million of things. Getting career advice came from asking teachers, friends of our family and a brief look on the Internet. But there wasn’t a simple one-stop-shop where I could check out all relevant work-experience. Thankfully GoThinkBig is here to save you time and effort.
Work experience for me was all about finding what I wasn’t into. From working at an Internet café in North London – not a career path! And moving on to volunteering for Oxfam, getting involved with their Youth Website, and writing articles, all helped to path a way for me to get into blogging, even if I didn’t really know it yet.
It’s not about money. Well, not yet it isn’t. Get yourself out there, make some friends, soak up all the experience you can and just keep learning. Once they spot that you are a superstar, you’ll soon get treated as one.
One recent initiative from O2’s GoThinkBig gave almost 100 young people from across the UK the opportunity to get work experience on the set of the latest music video for Rizzle Kicks new single “Lost Generation”. From directors to dancers, producers to art department, every crew member on set and during post production was shadowed by one of the lucky GoThinkBig youth crew. Over 3,000 applications were received, and some of the youth crew have even gone on to land more paid work within the industry.
