Nike Air Force 1s
Continuing our week of sneaker love, here we present the classic Nike Air Force 1s. One of the most easily recognisable pair of kicks anyone can cop. Take a walk through town, turn on the TV or tune into a few choice tracks on YouTube and their popularity is subtle but undeniable.
We first fell in love with the Air Force 1s, when started to get into Hip-Hop back in the late nineties and early naughties. These trainers are as now as synonymous with Hip-Hop as bling and bootylicious babes in videos. But back in the day it was Hip-Hop culture that was the major catalyst in Air Force’s popularity and resulted in these trainers becoming an instant classic, sported by millionaire Hip-Hop moguls and every kid on the streets.
What signalled that Air Force 1s had officially become a cornerstone in Hip-Hop culture has to be Nelly’s Air Force Ones track. Dropped in 2002 it tells the tale of a rapper working in a shoe store with a couple of his friends, one of whom has recently has a bad case of an acne attack and rocks a white mask for some of the video.
Even though that most kids nowadays have likely never heard that track or even know who Nelly is, these kicks are officially Nike’s most popular trainer and are still going strong after 31 years on the shelves.
