Paris, Texas are a new four-piece from East London. We’re digging their soft, wavy electronica, layered over a dance inducing beat. Our favourite track on their new EP, Silhouettes is Must Be A Reason, cop a listen below.
We managed to grab a coffee with the band to find out what makes these guys tick, in between the launch of their new track Schon and after their rockin’ gig at Proud in Camden:
How would you describe your sound?
We like to think it’s a dark indie disco sound with some warm electronica thrown in for good measure. It’s where funky riffs and sharp arpeggiators get together and hold hands.
Who are your influences?
James Murphy is a big hero of ours, Talking Heads, Metronomy, Phillipe Zdar’s production values, !!!, Chic, Breakbot, The Juan MacLean, I mean we could go on…
There are a lot of similar sounding electronic bands out there, so what makes you different?
No you’re not wrong – in a crowded space it’s hard to find your place but I think what people will hopefully see/hear is the sheer number of influences, styles, genres we try to marry together in our songs.
To be honest I don’t think there’s one obvious, easy thing that sets us apart, like always playing high-pitched guitar licks or having a flute player! And we don’t really want that, as the danger is you can get a bit gimmicky and stuck.
We’re obsessed with the groove you find in artists like Vicky D, Mr. Flagio, Pink Stallone, Quincy Jones etc. But at the same time we love the dreamy sounds you get with Tycho, the intense synth loops of Factory Floor, the vocal harmonies of The Kills. And then we try to bring it all together into dark, dreamy disco.
It’s like we’re trying to make people feel melancholic and serious but still want to dance.
What bands + artists get you fired up? Who should we be listening to?
We think it’s going to be a big year for Roosevelt. He’s a fantastic producer from Berlin and already a small hero of ours.
Psychemagik seem to be bringing out more and more amazing songs and mixtapes too – perfect for this time of the year! And also definitely check out Music Go Music if you want a smile on your face – they are seriously good!
