See The Forest For The LSD

Drawing by Ashley
One of those mornings: train’s late, drizzly, grumpy commuters, I’m late, I can’t be late. So the morning of any other Tuesday began. As I ran through the backstreets of Victoria to try and sneak my way into Redwood (my first internship), I say sneak, I was being hopeful. A six-footer with an afro and gold headphones doesn’t do much sneaking.
Turning the corner, I was greeted by the most inexplicable of sights. In front of me, sitting on the ground with her back propped up against the wall was a middle aged homeless lady. I looked at her. She looked at me, smiling. Not any smile. A HUGE ‘I am so happy’ smile, like a baby’s smile. To say I was freaked out was an understatement, but if she was going to mug me, it probably would have been one of most pleasant experiences of that week. But before I could go all Bruce Lee on her ass, as quickly as she had smiled at me she had lost interest and was now transfixed on something far more entertaining…. two pigeons walking on the pavement. Grinning from cheek to cheek she lovingly stared at them; as if they were her own children.
Drugs are a crazy thing.
