Black Acre At Corsica Studios – Review
We spent the weekend down at Chew The Fat’s Black Acre Showcase.
It was a night of firsts, our first taster of anything Chew The Fat related, our first outing to Corsica Studios and our very first ever taste of Jager bombs (needless to say, we loved it all).
After meandering around aimlessly looking for the venue, trying in vain to operate Google Maps on our phones we bumped into some old friends who magically just happened to be going down to the same night. Stroke of luck, they took us down the very alley we had just walked out of, and joined the queue to a doorway with no sign above it. Ah, this must be the secret kind of rave we’ve heard so many veiled whispers about.
Immediately we realised we had arrived slightly too early, arriving an hour after opening was apparently not fashionably late enough. It did allow us though to get our bearings and enjoy a few reasonably priced drinks, as we took in our surroundings in plush armchairs out in the garden.
As we hit the dance floor, waiting for the wave to hit – that manic chaos when a seemingly endless stream of partgoers flood in. It suddenly dawned on us at 4am, that this party was never really gonna get going. Was there a footy match on tonight, or the final heats of Britain’s Got Talent? It seemed like all of London was at home enjoying a pizza and a spot of telly. Those we were out spoke to us of previous nights where Corsica was full to the rafters with rave heads. After some initial stumbling blocks, namely a DJ wearing a World War 2 mask playing what can only be described as 56kb modem songs; Warrior One and R1 Ryders got the small but passionate crowd pumping. It was nice to see R1 Ryders boys again after our earlier review.
Rather than being put off Corsica and Chew The Fat it’s made us even eager to attend their next outing. If the vibe can be this good when it small, it will absolutely rocking it when it’s full. I guess size doesn’t matter.
