Drum & Bass Superstars

Words by Jodie
Eddie K
Best known for his remix of DJ PrimeCuts ft. MC Dynamite – which reached #2 in the Beatport dubstep download chart – Eddie K has made a colossal entry into the dubstep world, with his sound and production skills maturing more quickly than anyone could have anticipated.
This new EP sees him collaborate with H.E.N.C.H youngster, Minus, along with emphatic appearances by London – based vocalist, Beezy, and Bristolís Shadz.
‘Starlight’ touches on the techno – tinged, atmospheric vibes similar to Komonamuk’s ‘You Fo’ released early in 2010. Forward thinking and high-paced the echoey background and sub bass contribute to creating one of the H.E.N.C.H imprintís deepest tracks to date.
These 4 talented individuals have collaborated to produce one of the most imaginative tunes you’ll hear all year.
Gmozorov
With a keen eye for brand new talent, John B wasted no time in snapping up the Russian young gun and general wunderkind Gmozorov to create a trio of off-the-wall electro-influenced pieces for John’s Nu Electro imprint.
‘Pleasure Generator’ is drum & bass in BPM only. In this x-rated piece of audio geek porn, robots get naughty and give each other a sexually charged explicit electro workout. His new tracks are out now.
High Rankin
John B’s Beta Recordings label follows up its recent return with a new single from High Rankin. High Rankin’s music is a celebration of eccentricity. Brimming with character and personality, Rankin’s tunes never fail to raise the bar musically and always cause an inevitable dance floor riot.
‘State Pump’ arrives with a collective mix of beats, each one eager to stamp its mark. Beginning on a fairly mellow note Rankin introduces an echoing rhythmic melody before unleashing an onslaught of rough beats that engulf the ears! The bouncing electro beat drives the track giving it a real jump up rock and rave vibe that makes it a tune that will be hard to forget!
Cyantific
Jon Stanley aka Cyantific is back careering back into the drum & bass spotlight right where he belongs, with the debut release on his own self-titled label. Leading the way is ‘Brighter Day’ – the latest collaboration between Cyantific and fellow Hospital Records artist Logistics. Picking up where their previous outing, the mighty ‘Flashback’, left off, it’s supercharged electric d&b of the highest order, featuring the vocal talents of Natalie Williams. While the lead synth line and uplifting vocals sooth the soul, the ever so snarling bassline and pumping subs remind you that this isn’t going to be all plain sailing.
On the flip, Cyantific goes it alone, deeper into the jungle with ‘88 mph’. Filled to the brim with amen breaks, big bass and urgent samples, it’s 3am at Fabric room 1. Reminiscent of Cyantific’s early Hospital Records jungle rinse outs such as ‘Little Green Men’ and ‘Reincarnation Dub’, this latest offering is set to blow a hole twice the size in your bassbin with subs that go so low you’ll find them somewhere subterranean.
