The Electric – Launch Party

Since the mid nineties DJ Vadim has had the Hip Hop world on lock down. Signed to the iconic Ninja Tune label his DJ dates and releases have been prolific to say the least. That’s not even mentioning all of his aliases. Now he has unleashed his new project ‘The Electric’ with Sabira Jade and MC Pugs Atomz on vocals. The launch of their album ‘life is moving’ (out on Organically Grown sounds, Vadim’s new label) was marked by a huge gig at KOKO with an even larger line up. Alongside them was Polar Bear doing a jazz/hip hop set and a very rare appearance of Kid Koala smashing out a full live A/V set.

The Electric had Vadim towards the back of the stage in charge of the machines and poor hat choices, pressing buttons and hitting samplers creating the beats for Sabira and Pugs to sing over. Crowd was hyped, the bass flowed and Sabira and Pugs’ presence filled the whole venue. They have such a good time festival feel with tracks like ‘Running’ having hyper catchy choruses that effortlessly drew the audience in. There were so many singalong moments, even if you didn’t know the tune to start with you found yourself involved by the last chorus. As well as a Hip Hop flavoured ‘festival’ band The Electric also take things a bit deeper. In the words of Vadim himself ‘the Electric’s songs are filled with more triumph, more sadness, more faith in the supernatural, much deeper feelings’ – an album for headphone listening as well as live.

The Electric’s electric performance (yes I did and not even ashamed) and eclectic album will defiantly keep the Vadim music powerhouse busy for some time. A must for all past fans of his stuff and anybody wanting a solid summer album.
