Can A Porn Star Write A Book?
Sasha Grey, arguably one of the most in demand actresses on the planet, set about finding an answer to this age old riddle. Sasha may have been down on her knees since the tender age of 18 but she has since achieved more than most apsiring young actresses, she’s been on Entourage, made the lead in Steven Soderbergh’s ‘The Girlfriend Experience’ and earns more for an hour’s work, than most of us see in month. Sasha’s not your everyday pornstar, she’s the poetry reciting, American Apparel model, even her name was inspired from Oscar Wilde’s novel, ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’. And no one reads that shit anymore.
Her new creation, ‘Neu Sex‘ published by Vice publishing, is an odd sensory experience, let’s be honest, pornstars are to be seen not listened to. As Sasha’s says in her book, ‘Documenting myself has almost become a necessity’. What is clear is that not only is Sasha a drop dead hottie, she’s got the brains and the balls to back it up. Each page is a window into a moment that would have been lost. This is no fan made book of glossy, photshopped images, this is a nitty gritty look behind the silk curtain into the worldwide porn industry and a young girl’s life. Most of the shots are of her either before or just after sex, the rarely seen instances where she is at her most/least attractive.
We found it somewhat jarring that she didn’t include any captions, as there are some pictures that you really want to know more about, but that is all part of the Sasha mystery. She’s leaving it all up to you to create the meaning behind the photos. Neu Sex gives us an insight into Sasha’s weird world, from shoot to shining shoot. At the end of it all, has she turned the tables on the way the porn industry is viewed? No. Has she made this coffee table book acceptable enough to whack down on your next game of family Scrabble? Hells, no. But, what she has done is apart from making you horny is see a glimpse into a world you’ve only fantasied about. After all, pornstars are people too.
