The Voyeurist

We normally get asked to front a fair bit of music for you, but we usually have to turn it down. Why? ‘Cause they are usually pretty wank, that’s why. But out of all the dust and mediocrity we get the odd glimmer of gold. The atmospheric new 2 piece, The Voyeurist consists of songwriter and vocalist Sarah and Richard on guitars, and you need to listen to them. Here is why…

There is a lot of happy-go-lucky, wishy-washy indie electronica out there and it’s nice to see a band delve into something a little darker. Everything about these two has an air of sexuality and brooding encased in addictive tempo hooks. Comparisons could be made to the flavour of the month’s, XX but The Voyuerist is a decidedly deeper affair and slightly more grown up if you ask us, we’d liken their industrial-tinted minimalism to a young Ladytron. From being featured new artists on the likes of Amazing Radio, BBC 6 music and to being nominated for Glastonbury’s prestiguious ETC 201, it’s hard not to sit up and take note. They’ll also be dropping some of their beats at the Underage and Kiss the Music Festivals.

We were lucky enough to grab a few minutes with the band before their upcoming London gig at The Victoria in Dalston. Below is an excerpt from the band:

Where did you come up with the name?

  • After much deliberation and a few thumb wars. We were originally going to be called ‘The Voyeur Cooperative’ but I’m really glad we axed that shit. Way too long.

What are your favourite kind of nights to go out to?

  • Between reading Dostoyevsky and entertwining ourselves in masochistic ritualism we both would probably settle for a pub, any old pub. I’m so over the days of being ‘seen at a scene’.

Who would you most like to work with?

  • Jesus, there’s a list a mile long. Including that guy! I saw ladytron the other night for the millionth time and I can’t help but wonder, what if? Hands down my artistic soul mates…. I promise that if we ever get the chance to work with them I won’t sniff their hair or anything… (crosses fingers).

Any big plans for the summer i.e. any festivals?

  • We have a few things coming up. Underage festival has the potential to be pretty big for us, we’ve also got some good looking dates at the Victoria, Queen of Hoxton and Old Blue Last. Not only that but it looks like we might finally be getting out of the capital for a few northern dates as well later this summer which I’m really looking forward to.

Follow the band on MypsaceFacebook and Twitter, we’ve also got some free tracks for you, just like us on Facebook.
