Figures – Velo

Velo is the latest single from Figures, a new collaboration from former solo artists Jamie Blanco and James Delay. What really grabbed us about this track was not only it’s hypnotic electro beat but the super swish video.

We were lucky enough to grab a few minutes with Jamie & James below is an excerpt from our interview:

How did you meet?

We met in a pub, James was drinking, Jamie was djing. We started Figures to do something that was a mix of what we were both into, but also quite different. We wanted a name that was slightly anonymous and would allow us to bring in other people to work with on tracks, which we plan on doing.

How long did it take you come up with the track, Velo?

We counted it at 35 hours. We know that specifically because Entwurf (the design team in Figures) came up with the idea of incorporating the length of time it took to write the track, along with other factors (BPM, numbers or bars/tracks, even the geo co-ordinates of Jamie’s studio!) into the artwork. Each track we release will follow this process.

Great video, who shot it and what gave you the idea?

It was shot by Christopher Tirrell and Entwurf in an around the areas we live and work (East and South London). We wanted to portray the writing process, as well as our daily lives.

How long did the video take to shoot and what locations are in it?

The video was shot across two months in multiple locations; both of our flats, Elephant & Castle, the South Bank, Borough, and Bethnal Green. It also heavily features the Barbican centre and the area around there. We wanted the track to reflect our experiences of London, the movement we got from listening to it and the areas that influence us.

What upcoming nights/projects are in the works?

At the moment we have another 6 tracks finished and are working with Christopher Tirrell and Entwurf to produce a short film which features excerpts from each track.  It’s kind of a taster of where we’re going, as a band and as a creative team of 5.  We’re working on an audio-visual live show and hope to be playing that out by the end of the year.
